Accommodation
Farmhouses in the countryside: Privately owned and located in lovely countryside villages, expect to be treated like family here. Our generous hosts will provide us with home-cooked dinners & breakfasts including fresh bread, delicious cheeses and dried meats, local wines & regional specialties. Farmhouses offer close contact with nature and people, with their culture, wisdom,, customs and work.
The facilities are very modern and have a high standard of cleanliness. Room size and amenities vary from house to house. Some of the farmhouse rooms have shared bathroom (no more than 2 rooms sharing the same bathroom). We always try to provide the most comfortable accommodation but cannot guarantee that each room has its own private bathroom.
Hotels and pensions in the city:
In Ljubljana, we will be staying at local pensions that are located in the center and within a few minutes walk of the old town. In Sarajevo, we’ll either stay a pension near the old Turkish quarter or a hotel situated on in peaceful hillside outside of the city center. In Herzegovina , we’ll stay at the family run pension, Sunce, located on a plateau above Mostar. Bathrooms there will be shared. In Croatia, our 3-star hotel is located on top of the hill in Motovun. Those who wish to can upgrade to a room with a balcony for an additional fee. The hotel also offers a good restaurant and bar with fine views.
Meals
When staying at farmhouses, home cooked breakfast and dinner will be provided by our hosts. When staying at hotels or private houses, I will provide some suggestions but we can decide as a group where to eat. Because of the numerous choices in larger cities like Ljubljana or Sarajevo, you will have the option not to dine as a group.
All breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included in the price. When dining out, you will be provided your choice of soup/salad, a main dish, dessert and one drink (including alcohol). Feel free to order whatever looks good to you – you are not limited to 2 choices such as a ‘meat or vegetarian meal’ like on some tours. If you’d like to order additional drinks or dishes you can pay for those yourself.
A word of warning to vegetarians, due to the nature of these tours it may be difficult for strict vegetarians. Many dinners are prepared family style at the farmhouses we stay at and the meals usually have at more than one meat dish. Even some of the vegetarian dishes can be cooked and/or served with the meat dishes. I cannot special order meals at the farmhouses and because of the seclusion of most of these farmhouses, there are not other nearby establishments to choose from as an alternative. However, if you have some flexibility as a vegetarian I would recommend the tour. Sorry, but I cannot accommodate vegans or people with severe food restrictions due to allergies or other medical reasons.
For information on regional specialties, traditional meals and restaurant options, please email or call. I’ll be glad to give you more details on cuisine in these countries.
